Each teacher has the perfect name for the class he or she teaches!

(or is that the point, and I'm pointing out the obvious?)

It actually was not the point. But you're right! I hadn't even noticed.

How's the hotel?

The hotel is ok.

How is the dorm?

It's really nice, actually; I got lucky and got one of the better ones. Is it weird staying in a hotel semi-permanently?

We're not allowed to put stuff on the walls, and the room is already furnished. So in a way, this feels less like my own personal space than even a dorm room. But that's not strictly a bad thing-- the bed, for instance, is nicer either a dorm twin-sized or my own bed at home.

And the hotel still has lots of normal guests. It's definitely a little weird walking out into the hall in the middle of the night, and seeing middle-aged businessmen at the ice machine.

Yes, that must be. Although possibly very interesting. Have you had any strange conversations with them?

Ha, ha, ha. Computer science.

But the FYS about Jane Austen sounds so cool. How is it?

IT IS AWESOME.

Instead of handing out a one-page syllabus, she handed out this fucking BOUND PACKET of the assignments for each week and excerpted passages and all of this super-nerdy stuff and I was really excited. Plus, she told us that she dislikes analyzing symbolism because she thinks it's too simplistic and reduces everything else that's going on to one crude image. Score.

OMG YOU HAVE BETSY BOLTON!!!

I actually liked her!

Was she the one who made you play the name game icebreaker thing? She did that when I took her 18th century lit. class. Because I swear when you said that that's who I thought of and I wondered...

Wanna say "hi" from Alex Loizzo who transferred to Barnard for me? :)

SHE'S FUCKING AWESOME. I love her already. XDD

Er, she did make us do one, but that wasn't what I was referring to, since basically everyone had us do one.

I will! :)

You said "er" like a British person. You're awesome. :)

Also, good point...I guess a lot of them do those games. I forgot that in MY FYS we had to write poems about our names as an icebreaker. I guess I was just slightly traumatized by Prof. Bolton's game because she asked us to call her Betsy. And I could not. So when it came time to say her name when going around the circle I had to say "Betsy Bolton" and be awkward. :\

How do you only have four classes? :(

Because it's Swarthmore and it's known for insane workloads so we were actually not allowed to take more than four our first year for fear that we would kill ourselves. XDD

I'm also taking a P.E., but.

Wow. We're not allowed to take more than 18 credits or else they'll charge us more money at UArts. lol So I took all 18 credits...and that's without an elective. I have to start taking electives next semester or else I might not have my requirements filled by time I should graduate. o_o

XD, I think we need to have thirty-something credits to graduate. But liberal arts probably works very differently from art school.

No, Swarthmore is just weird and only gives one credit per class. It's their own system. At Barnard and most liberal arts schools, classes are 3-4 credits.

But I don't take more than 4 classes here, either.

All schools are different. lol

We need 125 or some odd number like that. lol Right now I have 39 credits under my belt and I'll have 18 by the end of this semester (given I pass everything), which will give me a grand total of 57. :)

At Ramapo, we only take 4 classes. But there's more homework than at either of the other two schools I went to.

Ramapo....are you originally from NJ? Or you an out-of-state student? *Lives in NJ.*

I can see why they only allow four classes due to workload. At my school, you can take as many classes as you want, but if you want to stay within tuition range, your classes can't exceed 18 credits. So for me, my workload is based on all 18 credits, which for me is 6 classes.
